INTRODUCTION
- In the early
'90's, a group of senior consultants and managers were attending a series
of seminars, talking about the
projects they were working on or had completed. One of them noted
that many of the advantages realized by the firms we were employed by or
for whom we were engaged in consulting work, would never be presented to small and medium sized businesses.
The consensus was
that the needed guidance just wasn't generally available to small and medium
sized businesses. We felt there was a large market for experienced consultants to work with
the best and the brightest of the small to medium size business owners, to
maximize their benefit from existing systems, and to work with them as
they implemented new procedures and tools. Within a year the
Montclair Management Group was formed (1993).

EMPLOY PRAGMATISM & PRUDENCE
The best
ideas in the world must be measured by their timing and other
yardsticks. We automated the data gathering for a manufacturer's
payroll a couple of years ago. Employees simply waved their badges
near a device, scanned the job ticket they were working on, and the system
handled everything else. The system allowed the company to make an
acquisition that tripled their payroll while they decreased their staff at
the same time. Now, make that same recommendation to a company with
a roster of 12 employees and you would be aiding them in achieving
bankruptcy. Experience teaches us that not all good ideas are good
for everyone. ROI has to be taken into consideration on every
recommendation.
Another point: Will the organization's mindset
or company culture allow a new procedure to be successful? Can they
be persuaded to enthusiastically embrace a new method or to use new
technology?
Lastly, we emphasize using existing software and
hardware more effectively before we would suggest new purchases. Our
collective experience verifies the belief that many groups have the
equipment they need; they simply are not using it to its potential.
These companies need help in more completely taking advantage of the
investments they've already made - thinking integration of systems;
getting everyone on the "same page"; moving to an operational
model in which they touch specific information only once and then re-use
it again and again. [Back

LEARN FROM EXPERIENCE
We didn't develop our philosophy while in school.
Nor did our group develop a "feel" for what will work from a
book. We learned how to direct organizations in time and money
saving procedures by being there and doing it. Constantly
learning, forever searching for new and better ideas, our staff owes its
effectiveness to the fact they've been at it long enough to get really
good!

CHARGE REASONABLE FEES
We practice what we preach. We avoid unnecessary
overhead like the plague. We have the needed equipment, software
and communications in place to get the job done without significant back
office staff and supporting personnel. We don't invest heavily in
marketing programs, rather, relying on that which has proven very
effective - word of mouth. End result - we can charge less than
the rates we were billed at when working for larger firms.

NO SALES AGENCIES
You can't be active in this business without developing
relationships with suppliers of hardware, software, wiring services,
training programs, etc. It is generally accepted business practice
for the consultant to benefit financially
from recommending these products or services. We reject that
concept. Simply stated, we do not benefit financially by making a
recommendation.
No commissions, discounts, kickbacks, finder's fee, are accepted.
We DO, however, aggressively negotiate available price breaks or extra
services. These savings are passed directly to our clients.
In some cases, because of contractual requirements, we have to make the
purchase to benefit from pricing reserved for distributors or dealers.
In such a case, we credit your account with the discount.
Normally, we attempt to posture ourselves as negotiating a purchase on
your behalf.
This "hidden benefit" is
important and a component in our overall offering that clearly sets us
apart from most "consultants", so let us stress it further to
make it crystal clear. We don't understand how a purchaser of
consulting services can be absolutely comfortable that the
recommendations made to them are purely in their best interest, if, at
the same time, they realize the consultant will benefit significantly by
their following that recommendation. We take that concern out of
your evaluation, COMPLETELY. [Back

KNOW FOR WHOM YOU WORK
This is a simple point: When you engage our
services, it is your interests we are working to enhance. There
are no hidden goals, ulterior motives, sales logs to fill - our sole
reason for accepting the work is to provide you with guidance that will
allow you to prosper and achieve your goals.
